On Friday, June 21, our client The Community Builders, Inc. (TCB) celebrated the grand opening of Charlesview Residences, a 340-unit mixed-income, mixed-use development in Brighton, MA. TCB President & CEO Bart Mitchell, along with co-developer Charlesview, Inc. Board Chairman and Pastor, St. Anthony's Parish the Rev. Frank Glynn welcomed Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, U.S. Representative Michael E. Capuano, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) New England Administrator Barbara Fields, MassHousing Executive Director Thomas R. Gleason, Vice President for Harvard Public Affairs & Communications Christine Heenan and current and former Charlesview residents for the celebration. Charlesview Residences replaces the physically obsolete Charlesview Apartments, a 40-year-old affordable housing complex located less than a half-mile from the new development. All residents of the Charlesview Apartments will move to the Residences thanks to TCB's innovative work with Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) contract porting, which is typically used to move smaller projects into existing buildings. The new development provides much-needed market-rate rental opportunities, as well as commercial space and a community center for the entire neighborhood. The event was covered by local media, including the Boston Globe, Boston Business Journal, NECN, Multi-Housing News and CityBizList Boston. Congratulations to TCB and Charlesview, Inc. on the completion of this amazing project.
