We are starting 2020 with some exciting and significant news.
When you build a business that you love and pour everything you have into it, you hope that one day, when the time is right, there will be a next generation to carry it forward.
Many of you know Dan Cence, who has been a close friend of ours since beginning his career in public relations with us more than 25 years ago. Since joining SM& in 2016, as a member of our senior leadership team, Dan has touched all aspects of the business, helping us expand our core services, lead our public affairs practice and launch and lead our government relations practice. He is both a talented communications and public affairs strategist adept at directing strategic communications, community and government relations, political intelligence, lobbying, procurement representation, ballot initiatives, and grassroots organizing – as well as a gifted leader.
We are proud and grateful that we get to do what we do every day: work that matters, for organizations with a strong sense of mission, thanks to the hard work and dedication of amazing staff. It doesn’t get any better than that. Dan is the right person to build on this foundation and lead the agency into the next era as its new owner, CEO and Managing Partner. We will continue our strategic work with clients and in business development as Co-Presidents.
We founded Solomon McCown in 2003 based on several principles. Working closely with pre-eminent companies in real estate, health care, education and non-profit organizations, we wanted to deliver senior level counsel and outstanding public relations services. Guided by this mission and supported by an extraordinary group of committed professionals, we have become one of the region’s leading, fully-integrated firms, providing crisis communications, public affairs, government relations and digital services. Our sweet spot is working with clients to solve complex problems at the intersection of business and policy and we have found meaning in that each and every day for nearly 17 years.
Dan is equally impassioned about this agency and the high standard of work we do. He shares our commitment to delivering senior level attention to our clients while also nurturing and developing our talented staff. As a women-owned business, we have always been committed to creating opportunities for young women to grow and succeed in communications and Dan shares our passion and commitment to these foundational principles.
The ampersand at the end of our logo communicates our belief in the power of collaboration, with clients, partners and staff. We could not be prouder to add Dan Cence’s name after that ampersand: Solomon McCown & Cence.
We are excited to work closely with Dan as he takes the reins.
We look forward to talking with you in the weeks to come.
Helene Solomon, Founder and Co-President and Ashley McCown, Co-President
