Perhaps Senator Edward Markey said it best: “Boston loves Tom Menino because Tom Menino loved Boston with all of his heart.” Known as the “urban mechanic,” Tom Menino left a lasting mark on the city he loved. From the Innovation District to the Rose Kennedy Greenway, from Hyde Park to East Boston, he truly helped this city grow and move into the 21st century while caring deeply about the people who call Boston home. From the lofty to the lowly, he reached out his hand to all.

Our hearts are heavy and sad. He gave his life to the city. For his family and for him, we wish he had more time. We extend our deepest sympathies to Angela, his wife; his two children; grandchildren and his extended family. May he rest in peace.

Mayor Menino meets the press at a 2013 groundbreaking.
