Rockland Trust is a full-service community bank servicing southeastern and central Massachusetts and Rhode Island. They offer a wide range of banking, investment, and insurance services to businesses and individuals through retail branches, commercial lending offices, investment management offices, residential lending centers, as well as through online, mobile and phone banking. In 2014, Rockland Trust tapped SM&C as its communications partner. Based on the findings of our initial communications audit, we set out to highlight Rockland Trust’s experienced, exceptional leadership across the bank’s business lines of Commercial Lending, its Retail branches, Investment Management Group as well as its overall corporate image.
Our initial media relations efforts focused on formal introductions between the bank’s executive leadership team and key business reporters. Within the following months, SM&C was successful in securing profiles on several bank executives. Including a Boston Globe story on millennials’ banking habits (a demographic identified as critical to the bank’s future success) that featured quotes from Rockland Trust leadership along with images of one of its newly renovated branches.
Solomon McCown & Cence has successfully raised the bank’s media profile with regular placements in local and national consumer and industry/trade press. This coverage spans radio, podcasts, print, online, and television. In addition, we have managed strategic communications for numerous successful acquisitions, and Rockland Trust’s first retail expansion into the cities of Boston and Worcester.
In the year 2020, our Public Relations efforts delivered nearly 46 percent more media placements than our projected goal, 35 broadcast placements, the majority being national broadcast outlets, 215 pieces coverage in top tier outlets, which are national or leading regional targets, and 26 percent of placements were profile stories on the bank’s leadership.
