With nearly two decades spent in broadcast news and feature television, T.J. brings the perspective of a veteran journalist to the agency’s award-winning media relations, issues and crisis management as well as communications training capabilities. Across Solomon McCown’s corporate and mission-focused practices, he oversees strategy and drives results on numerous client accounts. In addition, he conducts high-level writing and content editing and directs how the agency produces client videos.
T.J. is regularly relied upon for his counsel on many delicate and high-profile issues involving financial impropriety, federal investigations, sexual misconduct accusations, labor demonstrations, leadership transitions as well as a myriad of crises that have their origin on social media.
His writing on crisis communications has appeared in PR Week, PR News, PRNewser, O’Dwyer’s and Bulldog Reporter. A frequent presenter at conferences and contributor to panels, T.J. has co-presented at the annual meeting of NAICU (the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities), before the Boston Bar Association and the Women’s Bar Association.
T.J. sits on the Board of Directors and the Executive Council of Northeast Arc, an organization whose goal is to ensure that children and adults with disabilities are able to live, work, engage in civic life and play in the community.
Prior to SM&, T.J. was a correspondent and anchor for ABC News based out of Washington, D.C. and New York City. During his five-and-a-half years at the network, he reported across platforms, including Nightline, World News and Good Morning America. Before ABC News, he was a reporter and anchor at WBZ-TV in Boston.
He grew up on the North Shore and holds a B.A. in government from Colby College, from which he graduated with honors.
