As we gear up for a day filled with family, friends, and turkey, we reflect on the things we are truly thankful for. It seems fitting to acknowledge an essential part of our everyday professional lives as community managers. Here are five resources that make our lives a little more productive every day:
Need to manage multiple brands or accounts in one place? Sprout Social is a social media publishing tool that allows you to post content across multiple social networks at the same time, including Facebook, Twitter, Google+ Pages (not personal profiles), LinkedIn (personal profiles), and a blog. We are thankful for Sprout because it allows us to have custom folders and preferences for each brand we work with. We can schedule posts for later, optimize posting times using the Sprout Queue, and conduct lead and reputation searches to find out who is talking about us. The Sprout Social Bookmarklet allows us to quickly add interesting content to our feed while we are surfing the web and the Sprout Social Mobile App gives us access to all of our accounts in one place when we are on the go. Thank you Sprout for saving us so much time!
Cramming everything you want to say into 140 characters can be a challenge, especially when you have a long link to share. That is why we are thankful for Bit.ly. This handy-dandy link shortening tool integrates with Sprout Social and allows us to shorten links so that we have more space for the important stuff. The best thing about Bit.ly is the ability to gain insight into how many people clicked on your link, where they are located, what time of day, and more. Bit.ly is particularly useful in A/B testing. Let’s say you’re in real estate and you have two properties for lease. You could ask your fans which property they prefer A or B and include bit.ly links to each, this will allow you to see which property was clicked on the most. There are so many creative applications for Bit.ly and for that we are thankful.
There are dozens of social media tools out there that tell you how many people are talking about you, but Nuvi tells us how they are talking about us. This amazing platform takes social listening to a whole new level. You will feel like you are in the social media command center with their Streams. Bubbles display in real-time when your brand is mentioned. If the sentiment of a tweet or social mention is positive the bubbles are green, if negative the bubbles are red. The size of the spheres also indicates the size of the network or influence of the person talking about you. Nuvi allows the SM& Digital Team to monitor for online crisis’s around the clock.
It is important to make your content extremely easy for others to share without having to do a lot of copying and pasting. Clicktotweet.com is a simple tool that allows you to do the heavy lifting for your followers. Compose the tweet in the box, then click generate, and now you have a link that can be easily shared on Twitter as a Retweet link or on your blog. When the link is clicked on, it will automatically populate the tweet you created into the users Twitter status box. Thanks for making sharing a bit quicker Clicktotweet!
Not a graphic designer? No problem! Canva is a brand new tool that makes it easy to create professional looking Facebook cover photos, social posts, and more. The Canva gallery is full of inexpensive and even free images, texts and backgrounds. If you don’t find anything you like, you can upload your own images. We even created the image for this post in Canva. The platform is still in beta so you have to request an account, but they got back to us within 24 hours with a login which we thought was pretty cool.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Solomon McCown & Company Digital Team!
